Eligibility Criteria to become a Government Teacher
The minimum eligibility criteria for PRT, TGT, and PGT are different. However, a common eligibility criterion for the PRT, TGT, and PGT is qualifying CTET or TET examination conducted by the CBSE or State Governments respectively
PRT TEACHER :
Senior secondary school certificate with 50% marks or it's equivalent.
Pass CTET conducted by CBSE or TET conducted by different state government
2 years diploma in D.ED or B.ED from recognized university.
TGT TEACHER:
Four years integrated degree of NCERT with at least 50% marks in aggregate or Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks.
Pass CTET conducted by CBSE or TET conducted by different state government
B.ED from recognized university.
PGT TEACHER:
2 years Post graduated M.SC or Master Degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
B.ED from recognized university.
Government Teacher Salary Structure
The following table depicts the salary structure of a TET qualified Teacher for the PRT, TGT, and PGT posts. Remember, the following information is only indicative of salary slips for the posts. However, the actual salary structure might vary based on the post, work experience and the policy guidelines of the respective school administration.
PRT TEACHER:

TGT TEACHER:
Net Salary: 73,000-77,000
PGT Teacher:
Net Salary: 83,000-86000

Govt. Teacher Recruitment Process:
The recruitment process of Government teacher’s is simple and straightforward. The process consists of three stages as mentioned below:
- Appear for CTET or TET: The candidates have to clear the CTET or TET examination. The CTET or TET consist of two papers- Paper I and Paper-II. Candidates willing to teach classes 1 to 5 need to appear for Paper I and for classes 6 to 8 candidates need to appear for Paper-II. If a candidate wants to teach from classes 1 to 8 then he/she has to appear for both the examinations.
- After Passing CTET or TET: Once the candidates have cleared the examination of CTET or TET, they become eligible to apply for job openings available in various government schools. The candidates are provided with a certificate. Candidates have to remember that clearing CTET or TET is not a guarantee for employment or job offers.
- Interview process of Government School: Candidates have to apply to different government schools or institutes. Once they are called upon they have to go through an interview process. This interview will determine the acceptance or rejection of the candidate’s job application. During the interview, the candidates are assessed under the parameters of expertise of subject matter, teaching skills, interpersonal skills and overall performance. Once they are found suitable to become a teacher for the respective schools, the candidates are appointed as a teacher.
